The Town of Benson Police Department is currently recruiting supervisors (Sergeants) for its Field Operations Division. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a supervisory role, will have completed advanced training in leadership and mentoring, and will be able to effectively communicate with all members of his or her staff to form a cohesive unit.

Essential Job Duties: Direct and supervise activities for a shift within the Police Department, and provide training to employees. Perform general law enforcement duties, on foot and by vehicle, to protect life and property, enforce laws and ordinances, and assist persons in need. Will be required to complete various reports and forms, make arrests, collect items of evidence, and testify in court, among other responsibilities. 42 Hour workweek, plus additional hours as required.

Education/Experience: High School Graduate or equivalent and BLET Certification required. Five years of law enforcement experience preferred with at least one year experience in a supervisory role. Current certifications in First Line Supervision, Field Training Officer, Intoximeter, and Radar, or ability to obtain within six months. Must be 21 years of age. Must possess a valid driver’s license. All selected candidates will undergo an extensive background investigation, including, but not limited to physical examination, drug testing and a comprehensive criminal check.

Salary: The starting salary for the positions is $56,870 plus a $2,500 sign –on bonus. Additional increases are possible for those with previous law enforcement experience. All uniforms and equipment, to include outer armor carriers, handgun and rifle, Taser, laptop computers, and in-car WiFi and printers are provided.
